Quicksilver is a household carbon footprint calculator which covers domestic energy, travel and lifestyle in a greater level of detail than most other calculators. It provides a useful graphical summary and shows details of emission factors used. The tool has been developed by Low Carbon West Oxford as part of its Low Carbon Living programme.. It is designed to be completed on a one to one basis between a trained footprinter and householders but can also be used standalone. Together with other gudance materials, including topic specific carbonbusting sessions, it aims to encourage carbon reduction across the community.

The Quicksilver footprint calculator is comprehensive and generally pretty transparent. It is particularly good for identifying and accounting transport emissions, allowing the distinction between work, commuting and household/social travel. It also factors in lift shares and public transport. Quicksilver does not allow individuals to include carbon free travel modes e.g. Walking and cycling. Although this does not influence the result it would be useful as a discussion point for 'improvement' to be able to account for this.
